And I have raged against theorists like Derrida many a times, mostly because I usually have about two hours before class to find out what the hell does this jargonfilled bullshit guy have to say. But in all honesty, I have no personal vengeance against theory. And it's true, I learnt how to appreciate literary texts through the study of theory and methodology. Although I must say that deconstructionism is not my thing. Pas du tout.
I am all about historical/political/social context glory.
So as i write my thesis, trying to draw a line between nationalism in the Western construct and nationalism in post colonial nations, and trying to not say anything that's been done to death... two cups of tea and kaya toast later...
one paragraph.
Nationalism theory has been predominantly a Western construct, and while there are those of the essentialist school that would argue nationalism is an inherent quality, it is still a product of the western thought. If we look at the notion of nationalism in the western construct as a process, we see that the process of nationalism in a colonized nation is interrupted by colonization. At this point of colonization, the history of nationalism of the colonized nation is rendered irrelevant to the shaping of the nation’s nationalism.
by which I want to scream, fuck this shit, i am not going into academia anyway!
But i must persevere.
On another note, I have set up a blog to complement my research (minus emo posts about how i hate life)
